2009-2010 Mid Season Report

This season has started very well and we are currently 3rd in the league, a huge improvement on last seasons bottom of the table finish.

Towards the end of last season and after the summer tournaments we were confident that the team was making good progress and would do much better this season, but they have far exceeded our expectations.

We are now a much different team and with our new signings we can give any team in the league a good run for their money. We still have some way to go, we have drawn a few games we feel we should have won, and winning the league is probably now beyond us, but to even be in with a chance shows the huge improvement we have made.

In two of our next three games we play last seasons League Champions York RI, once in the league and once in the cup, and the results of these games will show us how far we have come.

All the girls continue to be well mannered, hard working and dedicated in training, league matches and friendly’s, with a willingness to learn. However the girl’s improvement over the year has not just been down to me, but down to Simon and Dave, their excellent coaching and commitment to bringing the best out of the squad is paying off. If we finish in the top half of the table we will consider this a great achievement for the girls but whereever we finish, we cannot have asked for any more and we are all proud to coach such a great bunch of girls. I would like to thank all our parents for the support they give the squad every week.

New Signings

This season the squad has been strengthened by 4 new signings and we welcome Amber, Kara, Jade and Sarah. All the girls have made good progress since they joined.

At Christmas we unfortunately lost a player, Lucy Wood, who has been with us since we started. Lucy played in defence last season but was moved in to midfield during last summer's RI tournament and has blossed in to an excellent player, scoring her first goal in the league match against Fulford. Lucy will be missed but we wish her and her family well in their new life in Jersey.

League Cup 2010

The league Cup draw took place recently and we are in at the ¼ finals stage and have been drawn away to York RI. RI are currently second in the table and the game promises to be a cracker. The eventual winners will go on to meet the winners of Fulford v Cayton in the Semi Finals.

Sarah Hart, Simon Hart and Dave Spanton.
